2025 CDT Codes are now available in Open Dental Versions 24.2.48 or 24.3.15 or greater. See our webinar for instructions on getting the latest CDT Codes.

In addition to the 2025 codes, there is a new Procedure Code tool to Import Treatment Areas. The tool will update treatment areas based on the 2025 ADA recommendations for procedure codes.

Insurance-Related Features

New Preferences

There are several new insurance-related preferences that were added in 24.3 including:

  • Require claims to have no missing data: when enabled, users are prevented from creating a claim if there is missing data.
  • Out of network fee schedules treat blank entries as zero: Determines whether procedures codes without a fee entered in out of network fee schedules are treated as $0.

Updated Filters in Procedures Not Billed to Insurance Report

The Procedures Not Billed to Insurance report has new filter options to determine which procedures are considered based on when an insurance plan was added or its effective dates.

New Claim Validation Warning

When sending claims from the Manage Module there is a new claim validation warning if there are any $0 procedures attached to claims.

Code Group Enhancements

Code Groups can now be selected when setting up Other Benefits, instead of an insurance category or single procedure code.

Appointment-Related Features

New Preference for Appointment Provider Change Behavior

The new Appointment provider change behavior preference determines if you’ll be prompted to update an appointment provider when moving appointments and what the default response is if you are prompted.

New Setting to Attach Multiple Tasks to an Appointment

The new Allow multiple Tasks attached to one Appointment setting in Tasks Preferences determines if users can attach more than one task to an appointment.

Enhancement to Planned Appointment Tracker

There is a new All Dates button in the Planned Appointment Tracker to quickly clear the current date range so the report is not restricted by date.

Imaging Module Features

Pearl Integration

Pearl, an AI integration that assists users in detecting potential conditions on dental radiographs, is now integrated in Open Dental. Contact Pearl for pricing information and to sign up. Keep an eye out for details on an upcoming live webinar to learn more

New Options for Tasks

When adding an attachment to a task, you can now choose from files already stored in the Imaging Module, in addition to uploading new files. From the Imaging Module, you can now right-click an image and select Find Tasks to see all tasks with that image attached.

Print All Images in a Folder

If you need to print all the files and images stored in a folder, you can now choose the Print All in Category option from the Print dropdown in the Imaging Module.

Account-Related Features

Updates to Payment Plans

Several changes were made in 24.3 related to Payment Plans including:

  • PayPlan Credit is now PayPlan Production and PayPlan Debit is now PayPlan Charge Due. You’ll notice this terminology change in the Payment Plan window and the patient account grid.
  • The Full Lock option has been changed to Permanent Lock.
  • The Date Added and Date columns in the Production tab have been replaced with Date Showing and Date Production.

New Payment Plan Preference

There is a new preference for Use date of production as date showing, which affects how the “Date Showing” is determined. When enabled, the procedure date (i.e., date completed) is used. When disabled, the Payment Plan creation date is used for production items.

eServices Features

Set Preferred Date Format for Web Forms

A new option in Web Form Setup allows users to choose a preferred Date Format.

Payment Portal for eClipboard

eClipboard now uses Payment Portal to process payments. This means any card processor that is compatible with Payment Portal can be used for eClipboard payments.

Send Message-to-Pay Links from the Billing List

The [MsgToPayURL] tag is now supported for SMS statements sent from the Billing List, which sends a link for patients to use Message-to-Pay.

New Permissions

A couple of new security permissions are available in 24.3.

  • Chart View Edit: This permissions restricts a user’s ability to make changes to Chart Views. This doesn’t affect a user’s ability to make changes to the options in the Show Tab itself, as these changes are only for the current session.
  • Perio Chart Copy: This allows or restricts a user’s ability to copy an existing Perio Chart. Without this permission the Copy button is hidden in the Perio Chart window.

Other New Changes

  • A new preference for Show Get All button in Select Patient window determines if the Get All button is available in the Select Patient window. There are also new paging buttons to be able to see more than 40 results without using the Get All button.
  • New setting to default to Raw format for queries.
  • Multiple cells can now be selected at one time, by clicking and dragging, in the Perio Chart.
