Questions & Answers with an Open Dental Expert: Advanced Services Supervisor

In this post, we are interviewing Ben, who specializes in all things eServices and is an Advanced Services Supervisor. We discuss his current role, his favorite Open Dental feature, what he’s been helping people with the most, and some tips and tricks he shares with offices.

How long you have been with Open Dental and what’s your specialty?

I’ve been with Open Dental for about 3 years now. I am an Advanced Services Supervisor but I primarily work with Escalations (helping with more complex questions from practices) and eServices.

What’s your favorite Open Dental feature?

Besides eServices, the Batch Insurance tool. It gives offices much more control over batch insurance payments and makes reviewing them much easier.

You work with a lot of offices. What issues are you helping them with the most?

Lately, server migrations and restoring backups. With the hurricanes hitting the southern states, we have unfortunately had lots of offices needing to replace servers.

Anything else you’d like to share with offices?

I can’t stress enough how important it is to have a backup plan so your data is always backed up and secure.
Not just making the backups, but verifying them, to ensure they are complete. Some offices don’t realize the value of a solid backup until something like a natural disaster happens and the office’s most recent usable one is from a year ago.

eServices can take a lot of the manual labor out of having to keep in contact with patients in several areas.
They can automate reminding patients of upcoming appointments, filling gaps in the schedule, confirming appointments, and having patients fill out forms (online or on their mobile device) when checking in. eServices can free staff up to work on other things since the bulk of patient communication is handled automatically. And we are always adding more features.
