Getting Started with eRx

eRx

With more and more states mandating electronic prescribing, we’re here to help you with the tools to ensure your practice is compliant! This post will discuss the two integrated eRx options and the steps you need to take to get started.

ALERT:
It is important that you start the setup process well before the Electronic Prescribing deadline, and especially well before you send your first prescription, as the process may take several weeks.

Select an integrated eRx solution

These questions can help you determine which integrated eRx solution is right for your practice:

  • How many locations do you have?
  • How many providers are prescribing?
  • Do you want non-providers sending prescriptions or just sending them to a queue?
  • Do you want access from home?
  • Do you need to prescribe controlled substances (EPCS)?

Our experts sat down to talk about the integrated options in Open Dental. Click here to listen to the podcast.

Use the following comparison chart to find the best eRx option for your practice, and visit our Fees page to evaluate the associated fees.

Start Using eRx

No matter which integrated e-prescribing solution you choose, you must meet these criteria:

  • Your practice must be on support. If you are not on support, contact us to get reinstated.
  • We recommend you update to the stable version for full functionality, but you must be using Version 21.2 or greater.
See your current version in Help > Update or Help > About. The version you are using will show at the top. If you are on a version older than 21.2, you must update it before we can process your registration.
Watch our video: How to Update Open Dental to a New Version.
  • Please make sure your eConnector is installed and running.

To Use DoseSpot

Complete the online registration form to receive a confirmation email. Once you are ready to start your charges and receive your eRx credentials, forward the email to erx@opendental.com, and a specialist will process your registration. You will receive your eRx credentials once your registration is processed.
NOTE: If you have more than 10 providers or multiple locations, please call us to request a spreadsheet to fill out so you don’t have to submit multiple online registration forms.

Tips for filling out the online registration form:
– Under Provider Info, the Personal NPI Number must be the provider’s personal NPI number, not a group
NPI. Visit the NPPES NPI Registry website to verify the provider’s personal NPI.
– Under Clinic Info, the Practice Administrator is anyone who works in the office, but this cannot be a
provider.

To use NewCrop

You will need to contact Support. Please complete the following steps before calling:

  • Set up the Required Information in Open Dental.
  • Ensure the provider has 30+ minutes of uninterrupted time. Open Dental Support will not be able to set up NewCrop eRx without the provider present. Each prescribing provider must complete this process.
  • Have the following information ready and available:
    • State license paperwork
    • DEA paperwork
    • NPI paperwork
    • State ID (e.g. Driver’s License)

The sign-up process can take 2 or more days.
Take these steps to sign up:

  1. Complete initial identity proofing (IDP) by calling us at +1 503.363.5432. We will need the provider to be available for 30 minutes, so please call when available or schedule an appointment.
  2. You will complete credentialing via email. See Step 2 on our credentialing page.
  3. Once the NewCrop confirmation email is received by your practice, please call us. We will need the provider to be available for a final 30-minute IDP with EPCS setup.

Providers not sending Controlled Substances will only need to complete Steps 1 and 2 above.
