New Patient Thank-You Messages
Send New Patient Thank-You messages along with regular Thank-You messages. These messages are sent to new patients (their appointment is marked as new patient) and provide a convenient link the patient can follow to fill out specified Web Forms.

Set up the Web Form URL in Automated Messaging Preferences.
eClipboard Branding
When using eClipboard for patient check-in, add your office name and logo to the check-in screen.

Set the logo and office name in eClipboard Setup, Branding Profile.
Billing Statements via Secure Email
If using Secure Email, statements emailed via the Billing List will automatically be sent via Secure Email.

Payment Portal
If using an Integrated Payment Processor for credit cards, online payments can be taken via the Payment Portal. Payments can be made via the portal, or using a direct link that can be emailed or texted to patients.

Automatically Update the Payer ID List when using EDS
The Payer ID list is automatically updated for EDS clearinghouse users.
The list is updated once a week using the OpenDentalService. Payers that were updated using the service will have information noted in the Edit Elect ID window.

Note: Similarly, the Payer ID list is automatically updated for DentalXChange (ClaimConnect) users as of Version 22.4.
Per Visit Copay Amounts
Insurance plans can now be set up with per-visit copay amounts. This is used when the insurance plan allows the office to collect the copay amount but does not split it among procedures.
- For Patient Copay, the patient pays a specified amount for each appointment.
- For Insurance Copay, the office bills a set amount to insurance for each appointment.
First, determine the codes used in Preferences.
- For the Patient copay procedure code, use a custom procedure code marked as Do not usually bill to Ins.
- For the Insurance procedure code, typically use D9430.

Next, in the patient’s Insurance Plan, enter the per-visit copay amounts.

When an appointment is scheduled, the appropriate code is automatically added.

Note: The copay code does not display until OK has been clicked on the appointment. Double-click on the appointment after it has been scheduled to view the procedure in the list.
Enter Insurance Underpayments and Overpayments
A new Pending Payments section in the Edit Claim Window allows staff to track estimated insurance overpayments and underpayments before they are finalized.

If you need to enter an insurance overpayment but aren’t ready to issue a refund check yet, use the Ins Overpaid button.
If you’ve resent a claim and are expecting additional payment from insurance, use the Ins Underpaid button.
A PndSup (Pending Supplemental) line item will be created and the patient’s estimated balance will reflect the pending payments entered.
Once additional payment is received or you’re ready to issue the refund check, double-click the PndSup line and use the To Supplemental button to turn the pending supplemental payment into a regular supplemental payment and finalize like normal.
Automation when Creating or Opening Claims
Two new triggers and a new condition have been added to Automation. These are:
- CreateClaim trigger
- OpenClaim trigger
- Claim Contains Procedure Code condition
These new triggers and conditions can help generate popups for claims that contain certain procedure codes, so staff can verify claim details (like Ortho Months Tx) before sending.

New Options when Viewing a Dynamic Payment Plan
You can now see more detailed breakdowns of charges in Dynamic Payment Plans, but they will be summarized by default.
In the Schedule tab, use the Ungrouped checkbox to see a breakdown of the procedures and charge amount for each charge date.

In the Production tab, use the Show Attached P&I checkbox to see a breakdown of the charges associated with each production item (i.e., procedure or adjustment) attached to the payment plan.

PayConnect 2.0 Integration
If your practice is using PayConnect 2.0, this can now be set up to integrate with Open Dental, just like older versions of PayConnect. Just go to Setup, Program Links, PayConnect to set up PayConnect 2.0. You’ll choose Program Version 2.0 and enter your credentials and other setup details. See our manual for additional information.

New Appointment Resize Permission
The Appointment Resize permission allows a User to edit the length of an already scheduled appointment.
Users that do not have this permission will receive an error.
Referral Commlogs
Enter non-patient-related information on referral sources. A history of commlogs displays on the Edit Referral window.

Wiki History Comparison
In Wiki history, select two revisions and click Compare to see the difference between them.

Automatically Save Claim Responses to Imaging Module
To automatically save claim responses, create an Image Category in Definitions: Image Categories. Then mark the category with a Usage of Claim Responses.

Send Attachments to Carriers
Attachments can be sent to carriers with a Supported Transaction type of Attachments. First, send the claim, then when the carrier requests attachments, return to the claim to add and send the attachment.
See more in the manual, Canada Attachments.
