Open Dental is a practice management software that is packed full of features, and as a result, we have a team packed full of experts. In this blog series, we’ll interview Open Dental Experts with various specialties. Today, we are interviewing Daniel, who manages our Security and Facilities Teams and is one of our Call Center Managers.
How long have you been with Open Dental, and what do you do?
I have been with Open Dental for just over 5 years. I started with Open Dental in December 2017. My official title is “Security, Facilities, and Call Center Manager”. Primarily I am one of four managers in the call center as well as the manager for our Facilities Department. I also oversee the on-site alarm systems and protocols related to alarm responses. I get to be involved in a lot of stuff here and I’m loving every minute of it!
What do you like most about your job? What has been the biggest challenge?
What I like best about my job is that Open Dental has always been amazing at matching job duties and responsibilities with passions and skill sets. That is how I got my ridiculously long job title and variety of manager responsibilities. I have never felt more respected and valued by any other company I have worked for. I also have to say that the people who work here are amazing. We have some insanely talented, fun people we get to call coworkers, and being here is a real pleasure.
I think the biggest challenge I’ve experienced here is pacing myself. I have fun working and there are so many “fun” things to do here! Thankfully I’ve had a lot of awesome guidance and mentoring that have allowed me to focus on the right things at the right times. We are all about development here on every level.
How has your position, and Open Dental, changed in the time you’ve been with the company?
When I started with Open Dental we had one building that was pretty packed with people. Since then we have expanded to five buildings and a LOT of square footage. And we aren’t done growing! As our company continues to grow it’s been very exciting to see brand-new positions and titles created as well as the personal and professional growth that so many people have experienced.
I started as a Support Tech, like nearly everyone who works here does. From there I became a Support Tech Supervisor, then Call Center Manager. I’ve always had a passion for great facilities for all employees to enjoy, so I got involved in some aspects of our facilities team and building maintenance. This led to me becoming the Facilities Manager this year, in addition to my other duties. It has been exciting being able to pour my passions and experience into each position I’ve held here, from delivering great customer service to developing technicians to developing great supervisors and now being a part of delivering a great experience with our facilities for all employees to enjoy.
What is your favorite Open Dental Feature?
Have you seen the ‘?’ in the upper right corner of most windows while using Open Dental? Click it and it brings up the relevant web manual resources to explain what you are looking at and how to use it. It’s easy to overlook but such a brilliant feature to learn how the software works.
What is something you want people to know about Open Dental?
One of my favorite things about our company is the transparency and availability of our resources. We publish our entire web manual, training webinars, demo software, and our pricing for everyone to see without logging in or signing up for anything. I truly wish all companies did business like this.
