Cost conversations can be difficult. You and your staff like to provide care and help your patients, and your patients want to get dental care without worrying about bills.
But payments and costs are an inevitable part of healthcare. And with rising costs and complicated insurance and payment options, these conversations might be more tense and stressful than ever before.
Luckily, there’s a tool integrated in Open Dental from CareCredit that can help you have more confident cost conversations and help more patients say yes to care.
Batch Quickscreen allows you to see a patient’s CareCredit status before their appointment—if they are pre-approved for the CareCredit credit card and for how much, if they are already a cardholder and how much available credit they have or if more information is needed to perform Quickscreen. That way, you can direct your conversations more appropriately and confidently.
Let’s dig in to the statuses in Batch Quickscreen and how they can help you and your team.
Pre-approved
If a client is pre-approved, it means they have an offer of credit, and they just have to accept the offer, apply and, upon approval, become a CareCredit cardholder. Communicate their pre-approval amount to them and send them their pre-approval application link. On average, about 90% of new
applicants who accept their offer through the CareCredit pre-approval link get approved.* That’s the power of using Batch Quickscreen in your integrated software—it shows you which clients have a pre-approved offer from CareCredit so you can be more confident they’ll be approved for a CareCredit credit card.
Existing Cardholder
This status means a patient is an existing cardholder. You will also know their available credit, which makes it easy to show them how they can use this to pay for their care.
Unable to Pre-approve
Unable to pre-approve means that more information is needed to perform Quickscreen. In this instance, ask them if you can see if they prequalify for the CareCredit credit card (with no impact on their credit score). Assure them it’s fast and easy, and if they are prequalified, they will have a line of credit they can use again and again for their care, and their family’s, too.
These statuses can be a gateway to more confident conversations because you know exactly the right next step. No status? Show them how easy it is to get started and see if they prequalify for CareCredit. Pre-approved? Present the offer. Explain how they can use their credit limit to get care, and help them apply. A cardholder? Share their available credit and give them peace of mind.
But Batch Quickscreen is not just to improve confidence and help your patients; more patients move forward with care and support your bottom line.
As of June 2026, almost 2 million patients were pre-approved through Batch Quickscreen in Open Dental. Those patients, on average, were pre-approved for a $2,049 credit limit, which in total is around $4.1 billion—that’s over $4 billion in pre-approved credit offered to patients for health and wellness.**
